And honestly given how old this game is I doubt anyone is going to sink the money it will take to make a whole new code base just to add offical mod suppourt. Hell System shock 2 and the GOG releases of Thief 1 and 2 only got new engines made for them was because someone found the source code for the Dreamcast port of SS2 which uses the Dark engine(used in SS2 as well as the two Thief games) and built a new engine from that.

You can deny deny deny all you want, but it's possible, you shill.Really nice way of handling someone who doesn't agree with you, insult riously though yes they can mod the game, but to what you don't get is how Steam Workshop works, to enable and suppourt it would require them to go back and rewrite the code which is impossible short of building a whole new code since the source code for both the orginal PC release and the PS 1 version are long gone. It's the same game with a different graphics engine. Unless actual successful modding beside the music edits have been made for the steam version without changing it completely? It's not a downgrade. Originally posted by Benomono:Not really, the modding community only works if you downgrade the game into a 1998 version.

It'll be well worth your time, just like re-reading a favorite book. Take the time to note what they got right, like the hilarious cross-dressing quest, and the chocobo breeding quest, and what they got wrong (incredibly cheesy translation at some points) and look at how these elements have improved over time.

It's a beautifully crafted piece of gaming history, full of flaws and experiments true, but it's these flaws that guided many games that followed it into the greatness that exists today. It would probably even take a ground up rebuild of the game itself, and if SE is going to do that, I think they'd just rather make an HD remake and release it on XB1 and PS4. This would require extensive work on the game's code and resource management structure.

Just because it's hard to make these mods doesn't mean they don't or won't exist, but it does mean that Steam will not enable them on their platform.Īdditionally the Workshop is an API that devs need to work into their game. The devs don't want the mods to be applied.

Games like these were never intended to be modded. Final Fantasy VII falls into this second camp. These files are not meant to be changed, and in some cases use some sort of encryption to block access to these files.
